May. 15th, 2006 12:17 pmI went to the orthopedist today for a follow-up. She gave me the choice to have an MRI or to continue physical therapy for a month or so since there is definitely improvement in my shoulders. I chose the PT, partly because it is working, and hopefully I haven't, as they put it, plateaued at where I am, and partly because, well, I dread the idea of an MRI. I'm claustrophobic, and they stick you in a tube where it might be open on both ends, but yeah. Ick.
She did say that if it continues to really hurt like it's been for the past few days, I should go back to her. Also, if I seem to lose strength in it, it's probably a sign of rotator cuff problems and I should go back for that because it's a surgery issue. We'll see what happens. Eric, the physical therapist, said we'll go no as we've been for a couple weeks and then reevaluate to see if I have to go back to the doctor about it or continue for the two weeks after. The doctor said that if it's improved to the point that I don't have much pain, not to bother going back to see her. Let's hope it gets there!
But I'm tired, because a certain 18 month old let me get a total of absolutely zero sleep last night. The little night owl refused to settle into sleep after she woke up around 1 am or so (I was still up), so bleh. She finally went to sleep right after I started getting people up to get ready for school and stuff. I drifted off a bit a few times before Jason left at 8:20, but didn't get real sleep until after he left. Of course, I had to get up around 9:45.
So, I'm going to call my mom since she wanted to know the doctor's verdict, and then try and sleep, if Madison will stop babbling and drift off like she's supposed to. Of course, when she gets this way, she insists on being with me and no one else, the mean little thing. Poor me.

Date: 2006-05-15 11:30 pm (UTC)Thanks!
It would be nice to avoid the tube thing if possible, but it's probably easier with the head than the shoulders. I'd like to avoid it all completely. I will so rock at physical therapy that there will be no need for any further medical intervention! I have spoken.

Date: 2006-05-16 12:48 am (UTC)There are such things as Open MRI's. I love them, actually. It's like you're between two big metal pancakes. Thick pancakes, but it doesn't feel nearly as claustrophobic.

Date: 2006-05-16 01:15 am (UTC)Good luck with your PT. Hopefully it won't be as bad as you worry about. My shoulders were pretty sore the first two or three times, but got better, although since I think I pulled something in my right one the other day, that one's started cramping up and being sorer than usual. It's no fun when you have an 18 month old who demands to be picked up a lot.
Open MRI sounds good. Much preferable, yes. That does make me feel better about it, thanks for letting me know.
::hugs::
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you for tomorrow.

Date: 2006-05-16 02:42 am (UTC)Yeah. I liked Open MRI. When you're my size, you have trouble fitting into those tiny MRI tubes. But, the Open MRI was great. They just gave me headphones and I literally dozed on and off during the whole thing. *grins*
Thanks for the good luck wishes. I have a feeling I'm definitely gonna need them. *laughs* *hugs back*
