I actually rented it via Netflix. I was happy to see they have stuff like that. I saw one on the Underground Railroad today.
I liked listening to it. I think it brought it to life to hear voices acting it out. They were just read, and there were a lot of shots of the actors who did it (which some people who reviewed it didn't like), but they put a lot of life into it. I think I like the fact that the actors got to connect like that with those people. and they did a very good job (particularly Samuel L Jackson, Ossie Davis, and Ruby Dee). I think it's definitely worthwhile watching.
There were also lots of shots of the pictures used in the books and some of the writing, and Whoopie Goldberg narrated some of the history. I think reading it is one thing, but hearing it brings an entirely new dimension. It makes it more real. If you get a chance to rent it, go for it. I'm going to see about hopefully buying it at some point. I need to both get a DVD library on African American history going and to add to my book library on it. Yes.
