Take those Vitamin C tablets, and two or three a day. Or you could always try, what was it called? A Hot Toddy?
Eat soup, drink tea, drink juice, avoid straight milk as that never does a stomach well. Drink a mug of hot chocolate made with milk before you go to bed. It tastes better than warm milk. Either that or eat Oatmeal with warm milk in it before you go to bed. Here's hoping you feel better soon.
Hi Gayle! Im not sure if these will help but I thought I would stick them up just in case. Hey, you never know?
Have you ever tried a Steam inhalation?
Fill a large bowl with hot steaming water. Add 5-10 drops of the various essential oils that can help fight colds. Using a towel to seal in the vapours, place it over your head and around the bowl, lean over the bowl and take a few deep breaths. You can do this for about 10 or so minutes, Not too long though.
Um, would help if I gave you some oils that will hopefully work wonders for a cold huh?
Grapefruit - Fights a fever. Pine - Effective for decongestant. Helps the sinueses. Rosemary - Is an antiseptic I believe but can help with Decongestant Thyme - also a good way of unblocking sinuses. Tea Tree - Stimulates the immune system and fights off all those germs. I believe that it helps by boosting or triggering the white blood cells? Not too sure have to check the books.
NOTE! Steam inhalation is NOT recommended for asthma suffers.
Obviously if you havent got any oils handy, simple herbs or sliced lemon and other fruits in the bowl work too.
Have you ever heard of albase oil? My mother swears by it, thats the only thing I ever smell around the house when she has a cold. A few drops of that mixed with tea tree oil and other oils is great!
The only other thing I can suggest is what Susan said and Hot water, Whiskey and Honey (A tot of whiskey, fill the glass just over half way with hot water and a spoon of honesy). I love that. A good excuse to have a wee bit of alcohol when your feeling down ;o) Helps you sleep too! Honesy is a great standby that helps soothe sore throats and tickly coughs when you havent got any cough medicine. I like it because it relieves a groggy headache too, which I get all to often.
What about herbal drinks? Or home made syrups?
I can go on for hours stating possible herbs. So I shall stop now. Consider it an interest of mine =o) I very rarely ask the doctor for medication when Im ill, I like to try other methods before resulting to that.
